On 29 September 2026, at its DevDay, OpenAI introduced dots: personal, always-on agents built into ChatGPT. Each user gets a "primary dot" they name and customise. It has its own cloud computer and browser, works in the background, and connects to thousands of apps. Today, if you ask what a "ChatGPT agent" is, the answer is a dot. The original ChatGPT agent mode has been retired, and its multi-step task work moved into ChatGPT Work.
Baguette Bot offers the same core idea: agents with their own computer that work while you're away. The difference starts with a simple fact: if you live in France, you can use one of them on a personal plan, and not the other.
The short answer

What dots do well
- Deep ChatGPT integration. A dot uses your ChatGPT memories, works across ChatGPT, Codex and ChatGPT Work, and you can talk to it from Slack and Microsoft Teams.
- Thousands of apps. Through OpenAI's app ecosystem, a dot can reach about 4,000 services.
- Careful defaults. Proactive research in your connected apps is read-only, built-in rules decide when the dot must ask first, and you can add your own approval rules. Saved passwords are used without being shown to the model.
- Your own computer, if you want. Through the ChatGPT desktop app, a dot can work on your machine. This is off by default.
- Good at real deliverables. Early hands-on reviews praise it on files, personal websites and video editing.
Where the two differ
Availability in Europe
According to OpenAI's help centre, as quoted by several outlets in early October 2026, dots roll out to Pro users "in markets excluding the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK". France is in the EEA. A French individual on a Pro plan therefore can't get a dot today, and OpenAI has given no date. The one route in is a ChatGPT Business Premium seat, which OpenAI says is available across supported regions. Business plans need at least two seats.
Baguette Bot is available in France, Europe and elsewhere, on every plan, including the free one.
Where your agent lives
A dot's computer is hosted by OpenAI, and we found no dots-specific statement of where its data is stored. OpenAI offers European data residency, but for eligible Enterprise and Edu workspaces and the API, not for personal plans. OpenAI is a US company, so the CLOUD Act applies wherever the server is (see our guide to sovereign AI agents).
Baguette Bot gives each account a Linux computer hosted in Paris by a European host. You can watch its screen live and take control. Before each mission, a snapshot is taken, so you can undo what a bot did on its computer. As always, your messages still go to the provider of the model you choose. Sovereign mode keeps that provider European (Mistral AI).
One model, or yours
Dots run on OpenAI's model and nothing else. Baguette Bot lets each bot use a different model among more than 400. That includes GPT models if you like them, plus Claude, Gemini, Mistral, DeepSeek and fast or unlimited options on higher plans.
One agent, or a team
You get one primary dot, and coordinating several dots is announced for later. On Baguette Bot you create up to 6 bots on the free plan and up to 100 on Max. Bots can work together in a group thread, hand tasks to each other, and share a memory notebook you can read and edit.
Price
A dot comes with ChatGPT Pro plans, from $100/month, or a Business Premium seat. Free, Go and Plus plans don't include one. Chatting with your dot doesn't count against limits, but the tasks it runs use your normal allowance, then credits.
Baguette Bot starts free. Pro is €29/month, Max €69, Ultra €129, and the bots' computer is included in each.
Leaving with your agent
Over time, a dot builds memories from your chats and connected apps. Disconnecting an app doesn't erase what it learned. The only documented control is a reset that deletes the dot's conversations, memories and scheduled tasks all at once. We found no export.
Baguette Bot exports your bots to an open .bot file: instructions, memory, routines, watchers and teams, never secrets. Coming from ChatGPT, you can also import your ChatGPT memories into Baguette Bot's shared notebook.
Which one should you pick?
Pick dots if you live outside Europe, already pay for ChatGPT Pro, and want an agent woven into ChatGPT, Slack and Teams, with a single model you trust.
Pick Baguette Bot if you are in Europe, or want your agents' computer hosted in France, several specialised bots, the model you choose for each one, a free plan to start, and the freedom to take your agents elsewhere.
